Welding time is often the most critical parameter when welding plastics in mass-production. The required welding time can be reached with several different parameter combinations with the quasi-simultaneous laser welding technique. The parameters that effect the most to the welding time are welding speed and the number of passes around the welding path. Both of these parameters effect to the laser power needed to achieve adequate weld strength and joint quality. The effect of welding speed, number of passes and laser power varied in order to determine the effect on weld strength, weld quality and visual appearance. Air gap bridging capability of quasi-simultaneous laser welding was also compared to contour laser welding. |
